We’ve taken a week off from the shower due to some other things that came up (and enjoying Mother’s day weekend of course) but we’re happy to report that we’ll be done by the end of the week! Joe worked nearly 70 hours last week, so we didn’t get much done at home, but that’s ok because we were waiting for our glass piece to get precisely cut. Now that we’ve got that, we’re right back in there. It’s a perfectly rainy week for us to wrap up.
P.S. We’ve now officially lived in the house for 1 year! Happy house-versary! Here’s a throwback of us on moving in day.
The tile starts to come together in the final stages here. It’s been a labor of love, but the shower is just about done. Tiling was the latest hurdle, so grouting pales in comparison. It’s literally what cements everything together and makes it look unified. If you missed the grouting tips, go back to our shower floor post and brush up. Otherwise, enjoy!
We’ve come a long way with this little shower of ours. Once you see the tile, you’re going to stop wondering if all this work is worth it and jump on the DIY bandwagon! We chose a really easy, affordable tile to work with, without a lot of crazy accents or small shapes to cut. But dang. I don’t think we could have asked for a better effect.
Let’s see here. When we last left off tiling, we were finishing the bathroom floor. It’s really not a bad week to be working in the bathroom in this gloomy weather. The past week it was so nice outside that we took our cue from the sun and got a head start on yard work. We’ve managed to get the yard cleaned up and fertilized, and some plants planted as well. Just in time for these April showers.
That is the dilemma at hand. We’re putting the finishing touches on the bathroom, and it’s time to make some style choices to complement our tile. Now that we can see how the paint and tile look, we have a framework for what the rest of the room will look like. Time to tie it all together!
Alriiight. Now that we’ve got our shower and floors tiled, we just needed to seal them. That is not a job for the faint of heart, let me tell you. Luckily, it’s fast.
Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving! We had a lot of fun doing our annual Turkey Trot, even though it was a little wet and wild outside. We got two rounds of turkey, visiting family all around the metro. And we still have a Friendsgiving to look forward to. Bring on the leftovers!
If you got a little burnt out on Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, it’s ok. I actually swore off Black Friday shopping a few years ago. It was after heading out in very icy conditions… I think I was looking for a crock pot or something petty. Long story short, I ended up rear-ending someone because my brakes couldn’t handle a fresh ice patch, and that was a very short-lived little shopping trip. I decided all the madness of consumerism and downright danger were just not worth saving a few bucks. I took a step back and thought about how silly the whole thing is. Thanksgiving is about friends, family and togetherness. Where’s the gratitude in a $19.99 crockpot and fender bender? So that was the end of my Black Fridays. I went cold turkey. (Thanks for noticing the pun.)
Gift Giving Alternatives
But I’m all for Small Business Saturday, the day after Black Friday. I fully support the notion of using our cash to support local shops rather than big box stores. We vote with our dollars, you know? I’m guilty of deal hunting at chain stores, but I really want to try to support more small businesses. It just feels good. While I’m trying to cut back on holiday shopping in general, I think at least being mindful of where I’m using my money is a step in the right direction. That said, I’m hoping to do a lot more Christmas crafts this year! And please, before you throw something away consider first donating it, recycling it or upcycling it. Organize a clothing swap, have a DIY-off with friends, make mittens, sew a quilt, make shop rags or give it to someone in need instead.
