Basement Kitchenette Reveal

Now that the kitchenette is finished, we’re so excited to show it to you! (It’s actually been done for a couple weeks now, but we’ve been taking in the last drops of summer.) Come take a peek into our mini kitchen reveal!

Before and Afters

If you can remember when we started this at the end of July, here’s what it looked like! Total disaster zone.

Now we think it’s looking pretty sharp!

You can catch up with our previous posts here:

We currently have a renter in the downstairs apartment who doesn’t need much, so this little kitchenette is perfect for now! He’s added a tiny coffee pot and pizzazz pizza oven.

I’m thinking future wine bar with a wine fridge. 😉

We also tried putting a chair where the fridge is, and it would make a great little office/desk area as well!

What was just an empty space for ductwork is now a functional, modern kitchenette for guests. Plenty of counter space, fridge space, cupboards and shelving. We decided to skip plumbing since there are sinks in the laundry room, bathroom, and upstairs kitchen.

With a “night light” pendant for those middle of the night bathroom trips.

Overall, we couldn’t be happier with how this dark and dingy wasted hallway turned into a spacious kitchenette. I think it’s been optimized to its fullest potential. No project is complete without some finishing touches!

Finishing Touches

geometric pendant light fixture

Hung the pendant light and found a small flood light style light bulb.

DIY floating shelves

We had a little bit of butcher block leftover from the countertop, so we repurposed it into two shelves. It would have looked cluttered with any more than two shelves, but I think that’s plenty. They were a little too heavy to be true “floating” shelves, so Joe made some little wooden brackets.

We bought a pack of small hooks to hang mugs from one shelf.

It’s all about those details!

bamboo blinds

I actually had these bamboo blinds I picked up from an estate sale about 5 years ago, so I had Joe put those up. It helps bring the natural/neutral tones out of the door, countertop and shelves.

I gave all the window trim and doors a fresh coat of white paint, hung a plant in the corner, and some artwork on the wall. Macrame plant hanger from a garage sale and loon fabric canvas artwork form Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Finally, we added a runner that we had around the house. Too busy?

And of course I had to add some champagne glasses.

DIY butcher block countertop herringbone tile backsplash

I think my favorite part of this remodel is the herringbone tile backsplash. That and the flooring made a huge difference in keeping the space bright and spacious!

This kitchenette project total was right around $500 and took about a month to complete over the weekends. Another reminder that you dont need a lot of time or money to create a beautiful space!
