We’re done with the floor, now onto tiling the walls! We have a lot of tile in here and it’s making a big splash. Follow along for the final weeks of this bathroom build.
Addition | Walls and Stairs
Renovating is no joke. Sorry we’re behind on posts. Bloggers’ constipation… It’s been nonstop since July around here and we’re trying to keep things moving along before it gets too cold! Let’s pick right back up in August.
Framing the Addition Walls
Getting our new space framed was incredible. We have another short time-lapse video for you! It was surreal seeing the whole thing come together so quickly — I had to walk around the block a couple times just to calm maself down. It surpasses our dreams of what the house would look like. I can say for myself, it’s wayyyy taller than I imagined, even from the blueprints. The floor joists were first to get built. Now we’re onto the walls and stairs.
Habitat for Humanity Project
Habitat for Humanity 2018
First off, I want to thank everyone who donated to my Habitat for Humanity birthday campaign. I’ve never dedicated a birthday to a cause before, but it was so exciting to see donations rolling in. I had a goal of $200 and I almost doubled that, reaching my goal within the first hour! I was truly astonished. No guilt, if you didn’t though. I know everyone has their own favorite causes they support. This just happens to be one of mine.
Apartment Subfloor and Shower Progress
DIY Bathroom Remodel
If you’re going to gut a bathroom, there are a few things you’re going to come across behind the walls and floor. This post is dedicated to what lies beneath…
Neighbor’s Shower + Updates
Ahh, it seems like only yesterday we were two youngsters on a mission to renovate our basement bathroom, knocking out walls and digging plumbing. Almost two years ago already. Joe is reliving the good ol’ days, using his experience to help a friend with a similar shower. I guess you know who to call for any shower projects from now on!
July Tornado ’17
Mother nature can be twisted, indeed. This summer will definitely go down in the history books as the summer of twin tornados. It’s the talk of the town. They officially confirmed there were two F1’s that did some pretty destructive work. We suffered a tree through the roof, but fared a lot better than some. Luckily everyone was okay! Since we took a bunch of photos and videos for insurance purposes, we might as well share ’em.
Styled Bookshelves | DIY Built-ins
Finishing Built-in Bookshelves
Woohoo! My bookshelf dreams are officially actualized. We are so happy with how this whole wall turned out. DIY built-in bookshelves don’t have to be hard. In fact, they went fairly smoothly. If you missed the original build, check out this post first. Then come back here where I have the easy job of showing a bunch of finished after pictures. I got to play with my new camera Joe gifted me for Christmas, so it made photographing these shelves extra fun.

DIY Built-in Bookshelves
Alright, I must confess: I was 100% all for jumping on the IKEA hack bandwagon for this project. There are so many tutorials about retrofitting the “Billy” cabinet to make floor-to-ceiling bookcases. But when the dimensions didn’t fit our space, we had no choice but to go for a custom solution. And that’s usually where the best ideas are hiding.
Before
You can ask Joe, this was probably the thing I was most excited about when we moved into the house. It was at the top of my list, but not high priority compared to some other projects.
Signs #5
DIY Reclaimed Wood Signs
I promise we’ll stop with the signs after Christmas, but for now we’re in full craft mode. And we’ve got plenty of basement movie room updates on the way, so hang tight.
