Finally we have some walls! And it was well-worth the wait. Once the lumber arrived, we wasted no time getting to work. Our crew put in some long hours to make this all happen.
Framing the Addition
So I think we demo’d the roof on a Tuesday and construction got started on Wednesday morning. Our crew showed up bright and early — 7 am each morning for the next couple weeks — six or seven days a week. And when I say it was a true miracle we found someone to do the work, I’m not joking. The guys who built our house were seriously angels. Their work shirts had Hebrews 3:4 on them, and their names were Luke, Paul and Peter. I mean, you just can’t make this up! (And Keith too, but he and his wife lead a bible study, so I mean that’s still some pretty serious divine intervention if you ask me). They honestly became like family in a very short time.
Here’s another time-lapse video to capture several hours’ work in just over under minutes.
They assembled all the floor trusses and glued and nailed down subfloor on top of them.
Floor Trusses and Walls
Getting our lumber delivered was a super exciting day. No two people should be that excited by a pile of wood.
And then we got a big tool shed trailer dropped off at our place. This is kind of like home base for tools and equipment.
We knew this was going to come together fast, but it’s insane just how fast four guys can work.
First, they had to build the floor trusses before the walls.
Here’s a photo of the floor trusses, walls and roof trusses.
Here’s our first wall going up.
There’s one of the tall walls. And you can see our window rough openings.
It was fun sitting up there with nothing but a shell of a house. We would joke about locking the doors. Why bother!
She’s starting to shape up! July-August was all kind of a blur and a lot has been happening. Next up is the roof framing.
