Addition Bathroom | Final Reveal

bathroom final reveal header

We officially passed final plumbing inspection, and I finally (wait, let me move one more candle) have things arranged. Hop on into the post for all the final reveal pics!

Tropical Paradise Bathroom

I’m calling this bathroom our tropical paradise. 🌴 The rest of our addition skews very minimalistic, so I wanted this little bathroom to be a fun, bright and colorful oasis. I didn’t want to lean too far into Jangalow-style territory, but I do love the more-is-more vibe in a bathroom.

Green is my favorite color, so give me more of it in here.

Trends come and go, but I am all about the feeling this space creates.

Tile & Tub

The tile changes from greenish, to blueish depending on the lighting. This tile is called Mint Tea, T Square from Kate-lo Tile & Stone.

I knew I wanted to have floor to ceiling tile, even though there’s no shower.

I even got my bath pillow – I love this one.

Some people say freestanding soaking tubs are a big waste of money because they are underused in a home. No way! I love baths and have already gotten so much use out of it. I’m pretty sure it was this model.

The one we bought was very affordable, a fiberglass soaking tub. If you don’t mind a challenging install.

Our accent niche tile mosaic turned out to be a win!

Blinds & Storage

This view is the best with the light coming in.

top and bottom bathroom blinds

These blinds are great because they can be pulled up and down. So you can take a bath and still have the blinds partially open at the top to get light in, but nobody is getting a free show. 😶

bathroom plant

Gotta have at least one plant in here, right?

I’m digging this two-tiered shelf also.

It was extremely hard to find something the right size that could hold both towels and toiletries. It’s this one called Ragrund from IKEA.

Can’t forget about this vanity! Storage is definitely a squeeze in this small room. We went with the smaller vanity, but it opens up the space better.

Wallpaper, Trim, Finishes

We did knotty alder for the door and millwork around the door and window. Really warms everything up and keeps it natural and organic.

Whew! So satisfied with the decision to bring the tile all the way around as wainscoting. We made a quick game-time decision and ended up needing two additional boxes of tile.

But on the flip side, we only needed one roll of this gorgeous (and pricey!) wallpaper

Hook, line and sinker, I fell in love with this wallpaper from the beginning and worked the rest of the room around it.

Tropical Paradise addition bathroom gold light fixture

Between winter storms and other delays, the lighting came to us several weeks late. But worth the wait, for a great price. Found here on Overstock. We could have put the bulbs facing down, but I like them shining up!

There’s a lot of gold in here! We stuck with gold for all the hardware. I don’t think there’s any truly timeless type of metal for hardware; trends will always change on these so quickly. Here is this faucet.

The lovely waterfall bath tub faucet is money well spent.

This vintage shelf fits here perfectly! I have had it for ages and it matches so well, I couldn’t not use it. Someone working at the store told me it’s an antique, and I’ve actually found two of them at separate times while antique shopping. Something old is always good in a new room.

Can’t forget to mention this floor! Makes a very good impression on the eyes and feet! Understated. We are loving the in-floor heating, but I don’t see myself using it regularly. I don’t stand around in the bathroom, and I don’t spend much time getting ready in the mirror. It has been nice on these bitter cold days tho.

Recap

I think that’s a wrap! In total, this bathroom build cost between $4,000-$5,000, including all the sheetrock and insulation (since this was a new build and not remodel). The most expensive element was all the wall tile, but I honestly think we did quite well on the overall budget.

There are definitely small things we notice that we’d do differently, but probably wouldn’t catch anyone else’s attention. It was a fun, good-sized project for us to do together in the middle of winter. I hope you enjoyed following our Tropical Paradise bathroom. Time to enjoy a soak.

What’s next? Always something…
