DIY Midcentury Modern Bathroom

This bathroom is a wrap! Going back to our before pictures, the finished product feels like a breath of fresh air. We are so happy with how it turned out, and so are the homeowners. We achieved a functional bathroom and the clean, simple aesthetic they were looking for. And I’m so happy they’ll be able to rent out this mother-in-law suite soon enough. Just in time for the spring market!

This Minnetonka mother-in-law suite was all about updating in a way that blended old and new. We landed on this midcentury-modern look that blended existing wood tones with bright white subway tile, with a fun twist of mint green.

Before, it was a tight squeeze just walking through the pocket door, with the old vanity jutting out.

The layout feels much more spacious now.

This vanity is the perfect size and style. We were really stressing about finding something (or at least I was) and searched high and low. They found this one I believe at Home Depot or Lowes and it couldn’t be more perfect!

There’s still room for a backsplash if they decide to add one. Could do a cute penny tile here.

I’m not 100% sure of the source of this light fixture or mirror, but I know the mirror is called “Camden”.

If I do say so myself, I think our tiling and grout job turned out beautifully.

The stainless silver and chrome fixtures match well with this silver grout and caulk.

Joe’s shelves will be great storage here.

I suggested adding some sort of stoppers, like these boat cleats for holding rolled towels. This photo is from my brother’s girlfriend’s cabin and I just love the idea.

The homeowners were actually debating right up until last week about keeping the green cast-iron tub or painting it white. For a couple hundred dollars, you can buy a tub painting kit.

They had planned to paint it white, but after I left this little green lotus on the vanity for a photo prop, the seed was planted to keep it green.

I may be biased, but I think the green is so unique and something you can’t replace or buy.

After deciding to keep the green, Joe went back to caulk around the tub. Hopefully they will share a photo after they’ve styled this room. Can’t wait to see how they decorate it.

The bright white trim and new laminate flooring really freshened things up.

Oh yeah, and we got rid of the doorbell in here and added a new light switch.
