DIY Bonfire Pit Stool Cushions

We always run into this problem of not having enough seating around the bonfire. We have a handful of beach chairs on hand, but when we have an impromptu fire night, we’re left scrambling. I think I stumbled on the perfect solution. And they are actually comfortable! I plan to make a whole bunch more.

I saw this DIY project here first, and had to put my own spin on it. They are just as comfortable as they look and are a very stylish addition to your bonfire, if I do say so myself. It brings a little bit of the indoors outdoors, while also making it very clear these logs are not for firewood. Nothing worse than your favorite seat or stir stick ending up ablaze by mistake. These stools are friends, not fuel.

Getting Started

I had these two stumps previously that my dad thought were cool. They have some interesting knots and I thought they were the perfect size for fire stools. I first applied two coats of polyurethane in hopes that they’ll last longer in the elements outside. So let’s fast forward to a couple days after they’re dry.

I also had these leftover scraps of fabric from making our patio pillows that are water resistant and super cute.

Start by tucking an edge of your fabric under and stapling it to the stool top from the inside. (So the staples are all hidden.) Work your way all the way around, leaving just a small opening at the end to fill with your pillow stuffing. Add enough stuffing to be comfortable, but not overstuffed.

Then staple down the final section once you’ve added enough stuffing to close it up . Hopefully only 1 or 2 staples will show.

Handles

Now, you could be done right there, but I wanted to add rope handles. So follow along with me if you want to too.

First, predrill holes into either side of the stools.

This will make it easier to screw your eye hooks into place.

Once you’ve screwed them all the way in, you can cut your rope to the length you’d like your handles, and tie them on. DIY fire pit seating log stool cushion

Leave a little extra slack for the knots.

Alright! Now you really are done.

We’ve also got a tutorial of our DIY bonfire pit if you plan to make one of those first.

We don’t keep all our camp chairs and lawn chairs down by the fire pit so it isn’t overly cluttered. I think this will be great – we can leave them out, rain or shine, and they don’t take up much space. I want to make a few more. It really is an easy DIY if you’ve got the supplies on-hand. Hope you’ll give it a try!
