Rustic or Modern Décor?

That is the dilemma at hand. We’re putting the finishing touches on the bathroom, and it’s time to make some style choices to complement our tile. Now that we can see how the paint and tile look, we have a framework for what the rest of the room will look like. Time to tie it all together!

Originally, I wanted the whole room to be very modern. But we went with tile that sings a different song – in a good way. My original brainstorm has evolved over time, as it naturally does.

When we first moved in, I would almost get mad if anyone called our house a cabin. Yes, it’s a little older and a little norther. And we’ve surely got some wildlife and beautiful views. But we’re in a house, goshdarnnit! I resisted the cabin vibe at all costs; I wanted to update everything for the 21st century. My city girl roots were rivaling strong.

Lately though, I’ve been embracing the small-townesque feel of our neighborhood. My love for vintage and antiques couldn’t be stronger. And I’m finding myself irresistibly drawn to porches, gardens, and farmhouses like never before. Oddly mesmerized by lanterns and wildflowers and all things woodsy.

Could I be a little bit country at heart after all? I guess I just don’t know myself anymore… I’m fully embracing our newfound appreciation for the semi-country life, and seeing where it takes our design aesthetic.

Design Choices

Our remaining decisions:

• Vanity
• Sink
• Wall art
• Shelves
• Trim
• Hardware
• Backsplash
• Misc.

We want to save some room for handmade touches, but these are some things we plan to purchase.

I’m also considering adding a chair in the corner.

So many knobs, so little time.

I really like this for the wall.

And I really like that price.

These are a few thoughts rolling around in my mind. Like the ending to a good book, we’ll have to wait and see what becomes of our little bathroom. We’re figuring things out as we go, so please feel free to chime in with suggestions. Although, I think we have an idea of the direction to take. The results might just surprise you. They’ll probably surprise us too!
